Week 2 Days 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 - Busy week reviewing the processes for all departments in the Ogun State Water Corporation

Sorry for the delay on blogging this week but we were experiencing difficulties with our internet connection during most of this week but now it seems we are back to virtual live. So on Monday Susan, Sergio, and I were able to finalize the review of the scope of work, and started reviewing the processes for each one of the department units like Finance, Legal, Public Relations, Operations, Internal Audit, Mechanical Electric, Administration, Customer Care, Billing, Quality Control, IT, Corporate Planning and Budget. We had interviews with each staff department to better understand the current process, and their specific needs.  We have one more week to work on the process workflow, organization charts, and process recommendations. It feels like time is flying here with some many different things we have to work on, and we are half way on our assignment.

Assistant General Manager - Quality Control

The part of just collecting the documentation was already an accomplishment for us since even though all the reports and documents are on paper, they still didn't have any process documentation prior to our visit. Due the lack of infrastructure plus the daily power outage and really low internet band connectivity is hard to implement any kind of integrating system, but still, there are some specific recommendations that they could take in order to improve the efficiency of the each department.

Everything is being a great experience!! I am learning a lot about the Nigerian culture, getting to know more my IBM colleagues from different parts of the world, sharing our knowledge and skills to help a country that have many needs, and also having the opportunity to experience the World Cup games in a new country. We have been able to watch some of the World Cup games at night since we are 4 hours ahead of Brazil now, and I have to say that the nigerians look a lot like brazilians while they are watching their team playing :)

By now, most of the hotel staff already know I am Brazilian so whenever they see me they see: Go Brazil!! :) Everyone at the hotel and in the office is really friendly, nice, polite, and ALWAYS have a smile in their face!! That's something all of us could learn with them!
